GABA Tea Tasting Night
What exactly is GABA tea?
GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. Through oxygen-free processing, GABA levels increase significantly. GABA tea is not a specific tea category — green, oolong and black teas can all be made into GABA tea.
GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter associated with relaxation, stress regulation and blood pressure. While oral GABA does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, some studies suggest possible effects through the gut-brain axis and peripheral nervous system.
Its exact mechanisms, however, remain inconclusive.
Beyond its potential physiological effects, how different can GABA teas actually taste?
On September 19, we’ll taste 6–7 GABA teas across different tea types, cultivars and quality levels, using both comparative evaluation and traditional brewing methods.
Taste, compare, take notes, and share what we find in the cup.
